Begin Your Journey As A Christian Counselor

Nehemiah Works Academy trains and licenses Christian counselors through the National Christian Counselors Association (N.C.C.A.), the largest educational and training organization for Christian counselors in the world.

We offer a structured, online program that is a Christ-centered path of study designed to equip and empower you to become a confident and compassionate Christian counselor. We walk with you every step of the way through your journey and it begins with two foundational phases:
 
  • Phase I – Certified Temperament Counselor
  • Phase II – Certified Pastoral Counselor

These core certifications lay the groundwork for deeper training and specialization. After completing the foundational phases, you’ll have the opportunity to pursue Advanced Certifications or earn accredited degrees, such as:
  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Christian Counseling
  • Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical Christian Counseling
  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or D.Min.) in Clinical Christian Counseling

Certified Temperament Counselor

Complete the following:

Courses: Basic Christian Counseling Creation Therapy Christian Counseling: Integrating Temperament and Psychology
In addition, each student must: Practicum: Administer A.P.S. to 10 people + 3 hours supervision.

Certified Pastoral Counselor

Complete the following:

Courses: Mastering Pastoral Counseling Utilizing Temperament Temperament Case Studies Counseling the Codependent

In Addition, each student must: Practicum: Administer A.P.S. to 15 people + 6 hours supervision.

Each candidate must select and complete six (6) advanced courses.

In Addition, each student must: Written responses to a 500 Question Open Book Equivalency Exam on the Bible (Old and New Testament — KJV)

Masters in Clinical Christian Counseling 

Complete Phase 1 & 2

Each candidate must select and complete four (4) additional advanced courses.

In Addition, each student must:

One copy of a written thesis. This normally consists of 25 individual reports (case studies) developed from the candidate’s work with 25 individuals using the A.P.S.reports. A format is provided in the course titled

Temperament Case Studies. The thesis has a 100-page minimum.

Doctoral degree in Clinical Christian Counseling.

Complete Phase 1 & 2

Each candidate must select and complete eight (8) additional advanced courses.

In Addition, each student must:

One copy of a written dissertation. This normally consists of 35 (25 generated for license practicum plus 10 additional) individualreports (case studies) developed from the candidate’s work with 35 Individuals using the A.P.S. reports. A format is provided in the course titled “Temperament Case Studies.” The dissertation has a 140 page minimum.

Faith-Based Advanced Certification

Courses outlining the Faith-Based Advanced Certification areas are available at the link below. Please note that students must achieve a minimum grade of 80% in each advanced course. To qualify for advanced certification in a specific area, candidates must complete all faith-based courses within the chosen module of study.

Completion of Certification Phases I and II is a prerequisite for all advanced certification areas.

Upon completing any certification area, please contact Nehemiah Works Academy for details regarding certification requirements with the N.C.C.A.
